Welcome to Little Hall Cottage

Bed and Breakfast in the Clun valley, Shropshire

Steve and Elizabeth welcome you to Little Hall Cottage in the South Shropshire hills. Set in the beautiful Clun valley, we overlook the river, with easy access to road and footpaths.

The recently converted oak frame bedrooms are set into the hill, adjoining the 18th century cottage, and have been completed with a sedum roof, blending in with the surroundings.   The view from the bedrooms are always changing with the seasons, the meadow below with grazing sheep or cows, the hills with patchwork fields.

Just relax on the terrace with a coffee or an afternoon tea and watch the countryside at its best, wheeling Buzzards, the odd Red Kite and Swallows darting across the field, the herons stalking in the river.

If you enjoy walking, we have a full range of walks from easy to strenuous. The world famous Offa’s Dyke is only a few minutes away and the Shropshire Way runs along the ridge opposite.  The Clun Valley is exactly half way on the Offa’s Dyke path and is probably the best preserved part.  A short walk up the hill to the South of us meets the path.

The whole area is steeped in history from prehistoric hill forts and standing stones to medieval castles, which bear witness to the turbulent past of this border country.

There is always plenty going on in this part of the world. Festivals are held 10 months of the year ranging from food and drink, sport, arts and crafts, music and performance. The Clun Green Man festival in May draws in visitors from far and wide, and Ludlow is renowned for its Spring and Autumn food fairs and the races which take place from October to May. Bishops Castle holds an Arts Festival in February, and Walking Festival in June.

ACCESS STATEMENT

The cottage dates from the 18th century, and although the rooms are newly converted, the whole property stands on sloping ground, so there are a fair number of steps, some uneven.

Please ask if you wish to see our full statement.

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe in following polices which support sustainability as much as we can.

For construction – using local craftsmen for the oak frame and windows, stone found on site for the walls and sedum roof from local company. We have used reclaimed wood for fencing.

The breakfast ingredients come from the Clun Valley, and our own garden where possible. We conserve water through water saving devices. The room heating is low energy and high efficiency infra-red panel.
